Handy GPS v42.8  An Android app for location tracking in non-urban areas
Purchased version of the app for $6.99 on Google Play

So far, many location-based and GPS apps have been developed for Android, most of which are designed for routing on highways and city streets. This has made it necessary to rely on separate GPS devices for activities such as hiking, nature walks, mountain biking, and so on, despite having sufficient hardware in smartphones. Today, we have an app for you that is designed for routing in non-urban and off-road activities, and its goal is to make us independent of handheld GPS devices. Handy GPS is a great app for routing and location tracking in non-urban areas, specifically for the Android operating system. It has been developed by the BinaryEarth software group and is available on Google Play for $6.99. This app records your route, finds your location, and ultimately guides you home. Using this app is very simple and it works for you even in the most remote parts of the world because it does not require an internet connection. This app provides you with your coordinates in UTM or geographic latitude/longitude coordinates so that you can use it alongside your paper topographic maps. You can later view the route taken, stops, and so on in the Google Earth app.

Some features and capabilities of the Handy GPS Android app:

  • Display your speed, direction of travel, and total distance traveled in both imperial/US units
  • Ability to save your current location as a waypoint, and the ability to save a tracklog to show where you’ve been
